Diverticulosis occurs when a pouch, also known as diverticula, in the lining of the digestive system form. These pouches in the colon wall do not cause symptoms and are usually found when other test are being performed.
Diverticulitis is when these pouches become inflamed or infected. Causes of diverticulitis include genetics, environmental factors and obesity.
Symptoms of diverticulitis include:

- Fever
- Nausea
- A drastic change in bowel movements
While mild diverticulitis can be treated with changes in your diet, extra rest and antibiotics, severe or recurring diverticulitis may require surgery. Our board-certified physicians will diagnose and plan a treatment method with you.
