Colitis is the term for an inflamed colon. Ulcerative colitis affects the inner most lining of the colon.

Causes of colitis include:

  • Infections
  • Poor blood supply (schemia)
  • Autoimmune reactions
  • Allergic reactions
  • Crohn’s Disease

The most common symptoms of colitis are:

  • Fever or chills
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Anemia
  • Constipation
